My name is Amanda Dean, and I am both excited and humbled to be on the ballot for this upcoming school board election here in Chesapeake, VA. As a Chesapeake Native, and graduate of the Chesapeake Public School system, it gives me great pride to have the opportunity to represent the students, parents, teachers, and administration in this wonderful city I call home!

My run for school board is not only driven by my strong desire to protect my children, but also to ensure this community is holding our public-school system to the highest standards for all children. The role of the public education system should be to prepare our children to be productive citizens in society regardless of the path they take, through providing opportunities to receive a high quality, high caliber education that sets them up for success in the real world!

Our school system should be a safe learning environment, a rewarding working environment, and an overall asset to the city. We should be pushing ourselves to be better for these children every single day, and that is exactly what I plan to do!

I will identify sustainable solutions for our schools, instead of just continuing to complain about the issues. As a mom, a Chesapeake Citizen, and a former CPS student, I believe we are ready for a fresh start, and I hope you will join me on this journey! 

I will advocate for: Parental rights, teaching all history based on the facts not feelings, addressing the mental health crisis, increasing accountability across all parties, and keeping political agendas and their associated ideologies out of the classroom.
